Lab Safety Training Information
Process for Hire/Rehire Paid Staff or Volunteers & Laboratory Safety Training
1. Download and complete a New Hire/Rehire Template and submit to Sherice Underwood (FAO) and your financial analyst (who will submit hiring request to Harvest).
New Hire/Rehire Template click here (PDF)
2. Harvest will send the new hire an email with Onboard appointment date (this could be 2-3 days from date they received the request).
3. Once the new hire has been onboarded, they are cleared to start work and will recieve a NetID. Laboratory Safety Training information will also be given to them at their onboarding appointment (note: a background check is now required if new hire is to be issued keys and this could take a week or longer at present time).
4. If new hire will be issued keys, they will need to present their Lab Safety Training certificate to the EMN front office staff (via email to emnadmin@ucr.edu or hard copy in LSP 2710) and the PI will need to complete a key request form (at the EMN front office), or send an email to emnadmin@ucr.edu stating the room numbers and building for which they are to be assigned keys.

Lab Safety Training for Undergrad Students Enrolled in 197 or 199 Research Sections
If you are permitting a student to enroll in an undergrad research section for academic credit, they must complete the Laboratory Safety Orientation (Fundamentals) course and show you a copy of the training certificate before they can be allowed in the lab.
Training is completed online through the UC Learning Center (LMS).
- If the student has used LMS in the past they can go to UC Learning Center and login with their UCR NetID and password.
- If the student is new to LMS and strictly a student (and not a UCR current or former employee or volunteer) before they can log in for the first time, they can go to the UC Affiliate Access Tool, located in the lower left section of page, and create a profile in the system.
Please note: it can take up to two days for newly added profiles to be fully active due to the various data feeds and system updates involved.
